Story Telling Contest

Kiani signed up at school to participate in a story telling contest. The only note I saw on it was the original sign up sheet and it didn't tell much about the rules or when it would be. The only date it had on it was February (which I didn't know at the time is the date for the State competition). On Friday the 14th of November, Kiani brought home a note saying the competition was on Monday. One of the rules was that the story couldn't be longer then 3 minutes and the book Kiani had chosen you couldn't even read in 3 minutes let alone say it from memory. We didn't have time to learn another book and so we tried to narrow it down. We were really close to 3 minutes. She wasn't totally confident going into the contest but wanted to do it nontheless. She did really well and was very animated in her telling of her story which was Miss Smith's Incredible Storybook. Unfortunaletly she went over by 20 seconds and so she couldn't win.

The judges told me after that they thought she deserved to win but the rules stated you couldn't go over the 3 minutes and go onto the state level so they gave her 4th place. She would be able to tell her story in an assembly at school which she was excited about. Unfortunately while we were on vacation they moved up the date of the assembly so Kiani missed it. She is looking forward to trying again next year and this time we will make sure it is a story that can be told under 3 minutes.
Way to go Kiani. We are so proud of you.
